Christian Ambassador Ministries desires to nourish the Body, Mind, and Soul of the Christian community.

Our Purpose

This ministry focuses on the feeding and preparation of the Body, Mind and Soul to be the ambassador God intends each of us to be. This is accomplished by:

  1. Focusing on pertintent social topics by providing Scripture for reflection,
  2. Consolidating other Christian Websites for easy access in one place,
  3. Educating the Body of Christ on nutrition products and concepts,
  4. Offering a Health and Wellness home-based business for those seeking to support their ministry, and

Statement of Faith

We believe:

  1. The Bible is the infallible, divine revelation of God, written by men inspired by the Holy Spirit.
  2. God Created man to glorify him and have a relationship with him.
  3. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving and is father to all who believe in the atoning death of his son, Jesus Christ.
  4. Jesus Christ is God incarnate who died, was resurrected, and will return in power and glory to rule over his creation.
  5. God and the risen Jesus Christ sent the Holy Spirit. Every believer is called to live in the power of the indwelling Spirit who encourages us to resist sin and bear fruit to glorify God.
  6. Salvation is the gift of God’s grace bestowed upon all who put their faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This gift is not something we can earn by doing good deeds or living a “good life”, yet we understand that faith without accompanying works is dead.
  7. Jesus came to unify the body of Christ; therefore, all believers are one in Christ without discrimination.
  8. Each believer is granted differing spiritual gifts that are to be used to accomplish Gods’ work through the body of Christ. Christians have the choice to accept the responsibility and privilege to be Christ’s Ambassadors.

Thank you for visiting our website. As Christians, we need to be equipped to face the barrage of temptations, choices, decisions, and pitfalls of the world. As we explore the Bible, we are astonished about the richness of the word. Issues that we face today, we find, are not new. On the contrary, the Bible articulates them profoundly - giving God’s perspective on how we are to respond. With complexity, yet clarity, the Bible gives practical guidance on every issue.

In every aspect of our life we need to seek Biblical wisdom and apply Biblical truth, be it: parenting, relationships, nutrition, business, politics, media reviews, allocation of our devotion, time and money, cultural issues and service opportunities. We must prioritize our day to glorify God, and the only way we can do this is by knowing His word and being in an intimate relationship with Him and His will for us.

It is this journey that has motivated us to create this ministry. We have collected inspiring and informative websites and researched nutrition concepts and products to aid other Christians in their daily living. As this website grows, we invite you to contribute by submitting your suggestions, sharing the website, sharing the Isagenix products and business opportunity noted in our site with other people, and making donations.

As Christ’s Ambassadors, we strive to emulate Christ in our daily walk. It is with our combined gifts of faith, hospitality, administration, encouragement, wisdom, teaching, discernment, and prophecy that we hope to effectively persuade others to be Christ’s Ambassadors.

Deuteronomy 6:1-3 “These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD , the God of your fathers, promised you.”

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

Education-History

A Brief Education History

From 1620 to 1820, education in our nation was the exclusive work of the family and church. In 1820, an American atheist, Mr. Robert Owens, started a commune that later became a model used by Karl Marx. As America was a decidedly Christian nation, Mr. Owens’ strategy was to undermine/remove Christian thought in the nation. It was through this thought, as well as, the efforts of others that public education was selected as the most effective tool to meet the desired goals.

In 1858, the Federal Government offered churches the chance to obtain “limited liability” by becoming non profit organizations. However, in return for this privilege, the churches had to agree to new rules that strictly limited their entry into the public arena. This effectively placed the Federal Government in a position of authority over the church both in law and practice – which included the secularization of the public school systems.

At this stage in the US history, the God of the Judeo-Christian bible is not taught and more importantly - the government mandated teaching of many gods, many choices, many truths, many religions is required. This contradiction of Biblical wisdom is leading our children to challenge/abandon God's authority in their life.

The Scriptures clearly assign the task of education first to the family:


Deuteronomy 11:18-21 “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Ephesians 6:4 ”Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

At Christian Ambassador Ministries, we encourage Christian parents to begin acknowledging and obeying the Biblical mandate to educate our children. The Bible encourages Christians to view education as the comprehensive training of the mind (intellect), heart (emotions), body (physical), and soul (spiritual). This training results in the willful submission and obedience to God's will. With these skills and the work of the Holy Spirit, the child will thirst to discern truth and seek wisdom in all aspects of his life.

Our goal is to encourage every Christian, first and foremost, to focus on their personal, intimate relationship with Jesus. As convicted Christians, we believe speaking the truth of God’s word and His will courageously, with humility and love, is vital in whatever role or profession we are involved.

Inevitably, we will long to fulfill the great commission of sharing the Gospel with those around us. As the great commission is fulfilled, individuals will be transformed, as well as, society. Christian morality will emerge.

Understanding this helps us realize that we can not force people to be moral through legislation. While legislation is always someone's morality, it will either be based on Biblical truth or Biblical immorality.

Therefore, we believe, speaking Truth via the judiciary and legislative process is the responsibility of informed Christian Ambassadors. It is for this reason that the support for Christian Advocacy is important.

Galatians 1:3 – 5 “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Galatians 1:6 – 7 “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. “

US Government-Scripture For Reflection

The Bible tells us that God created the institution of Government and authorized the leaders that have been established. It is the responsibility of every citizen to be informed, whether a citizen of the kingdom of God or a citizen of the earthly kingdom of the United States. We, as informed citizens, should then elect capable men and women and then be able to direct them on our viewpoints concerning political issues. It is important for Christians to know who their elected “representatives” are, how to contact them and, more importantly, how they voted.

God Restored Me...

My body temple is broken!!

I have a chronic virus...I have no energy...I hurt...I can't breathe...My heart races...My stomach does not work well...I can't think clearly...I feel panicked...I am prediabetic...I have hypothyroidism...

This was my life for eight years! What does God want me to learn from this?

I have always had an interest in nutrition. Prior to having children, I worked as a critical care Registered Dietitian, as a home health consultant, and as an adjunct teacher of nutrition at a junior College.

Years ago, I discovered a connection between some unhealthy eating patterns and my distance from God. I also identified an issue of rebellion and ignorance in how and why God wanted me to feed my body temple. I used food as a temporary "fix" to change my brain chemistry, to get a temporary sense of euphoria and relief from my emptiness-fears-insecurities. Little did I know that God was going to use this desire of the flesh to force me to look to him for fulfillment – to hunger and thirst for righteousness!

In trying to improve my health, I saw many doctors who prescribed many medications to lessen my symptoms but offered no cures. During my struggle (at which time I journaled Scripture extensively), God laid upon my heart that my approach to physical healing should be to nurture and nourish my body temple – mind, body, and soul - through biblical rest, cleansing and good nutrition.

After years of research, I concluded that healthful, non-toxic nutrition follows some basic principles:

God revealed to me, in this matter of food, like all other areas of life, God wants me to seek Him first, delight in Him, be in the world but not of the world – and sometimes to respond as Daniel did and choose to abstain from the rich food of the culture in obedience to God’s better way. As Jesus stated, my food is to do the will of my Father.

3 - Feast denotes celebration, yet gluttony and drunkenness dishonor God

Genesis 2:16-18 "And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

Genesis 3:1 "Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden?"

Leviticus 3: 16 "The priest shall burn them [covering of the liver, kidney, fatty portions of the goat] on the altar as food, an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma. All the fat is the LORD's. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live: You must not eat any fat or any blood."

Nehemiah 8:10 Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

Proverbs 23:19 " listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path. Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags. "

Romans14:20-21 "Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will use your brother to fall."

Romans 14: 23 "But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin. "

Exodus 23:25 "Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,"

Deuteronomy 14:6-19 "You may eat any animal that has a split hoof divided in two and that chews the cud.. they are ceremonially unclean for you. The pig is also unclean; although it has a split hoof, it does not chew the cud. You are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses.  Of all the creatures living in the water, you may eat any that has fins and scales..."

2 Chronicles 20:17 "You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you."

13 Vital Nutrition Components

Overview


In our affluent society, we have a plethora of food choices and food conveniences. In a way this is a blessing yet a curse. As God's people, desiring obedience and wisdom in caring for our body temples, we need to commit to a Daniel fast. Daniel committed to "abstain from the king's rich and fatty foods". We also need to commit to helping our bodies cleanse naturally as they were designed to do, just as much as we seek spiritual cleansing, realizing the spiritual and the physical are interrelated. Not that we must wholly rely on water and vegetables to live, but let us be educated and diligent, not to diet, but to live a lifestyle that is pleasing to God and led by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit.

In addition, let us encourage and support one another in doing the same. Could it be that ignorance and the sinful choices of greed and extortion have resulted in a food industry that is rarely producing "food"? Or, at best, products with anemic nutrients and laced with impurities, synthetic ingredients and toxic substances? Consequently, could it be that the result of the increased toxicities and decreased nutrition has led to current-day plagues, such as obesity, diabetes, Alzheimer's, autoimmune disorders, intestinal disorders, heart disease, AD/HD, allergies, asthma, etc.?

To Daniel fast today is indeed a challenging and uncommon lifestyle -a physical and spiritual choice. It takes 7 years for the cells in the body to die off and replace old cells with new cells. God's number "7" is considered the number of completion in the Bible, and God calls us into creative work with him. 1 - Cleansing agents to nutritionally support the body's natural ability to remove impurities and prepare the body to receive healthful nutrition

  1. Natural cleansing agents include the juice of fresh lemons, limes,100% cranberry juice and raw, organic, unfiltered, raw apple cider vinegar (Bragg's is a good brand).
  2. Botanicals, teas and gentle cleansing herbs have provided nutritional support to the body's natural cleansing process for thousands of years in other cultures, particularly the Asian continent and Indian Ayurvedic medicine.
  3. A few examples of these agents are ionic alfalfa, ashwagandha, burdock root, green tea, fennel seed, pau d'arco, and yellow dock.
  4. The body works at the cellular level to ensure the elimination of impurities, which are primarily stored in "stubborn fat". Many people find it easier to shed unwanted fat, along with impurities, through routine full-body, cellular cleansing.
  5. Certain prescription medications can be damaging to the liver and impede the natural cleansing process. These medications include anti-depressants, synthetic hormones and cholesterol-lowering statins, indicating a greater need for cleansing.
  6. Other ways to cleanse include gentle yoga-style twisting on an empty stomach, Epsom salt bath soaks, deep breathing and gentle exfoliation of the skin.
  7. There are a few excellent prepared liquid Cleanse drinks, but be sure these are not diuretics (caffeine) or laxatives (herbal or synthetic stimulants) and that they provide replenishing nutrients as the body is cleansed, i.e. B vitamins, ionic trace minerals and preferably antioxidents. (Isagenix has an amazing and affordable Cleanse drink with 100 active ingredients). There is fulvic acid in the several products, including this Cleanse, which is necessary to remove impurities from the cell and aid in nutrient absorption.)
  8. Do not rely on a single "super juice" to cleanse. These are very expensive and only partially effective.

2 - Alkaline water free of heavy metals and chlorine and fluoride to avoid toxins and impurities

  1. Bottled water is very acidic most of the time. In addition, it is predominately stored in unhealthy plastics that have been exposed to high heats in storage. As a result, the plastic produces and leaches out dangerous chemicals that are considered toxic to the body when consumed.
  2. Memphis tap water, which is close to pH neutral, does contain fluoride and chlorine that should be filtered. This filtration can be installed at the house water source, the sink faucet(s) or on-the-counter filter pitcher(s). Note: Shower and bath nozzles should be filtered, as well, because we inhale and the skin soaks in these same chemicals in a hot bath or shower.
  3. Note: reverse osmosis water is an excellent purification method. Deionized water and triple-filtered water are good methods, as well. So look on beverage ingredient labels for these desirable water sources, which will most likely be the first ingredient listed. (Reverse osmosis water is used in formulation of the Isagenix Cleanse for Life drink.
  4. Alkaline water is preferable to keep the body at a homeostatic state in which natural body chemical reactions can occur. The goal being to hydrate and oxygenate your body and organs on a cellular level, which is vital for bodily functions and in the removal of toxins. You can purchase alkaline water but it can be very expensive. The good news is that Memphis water is close to pH neutral, which is better than the acidic bottled water.
  5. Water with a stabilized, negative ionic charge and a high Oxygen-Reduction Potential (ORP) can help neutralize harmful radicals often found in regular drinking water. Note: There is a US source of ionized, high- mineral content water that is highly charged and oxygenated - the Coleman quartz crystal water mine in Arkansas, which is owned by Isagenix formulator, John Anderson. (This water is found in the Isagenix Ionix Supreme drink.)
  6. Through patented technology, Isagenix has an IsaWater concentrated drop product that alkalizes and adds a stable ionic charge to any water to remove impurities not filtered out and to alkalize the water.
  7. Purchase containers that are safe in which to store beverages: stainless steel, glass or safe plastics (indicated on the label).
  8. Mineral waters from this country are not generally a good source of minerals and thereby are of no value except possibly convenience.

3 - 70 or more Organic ionic minerals and trace minerals* not found in our food source

  1. Of the essential 90 nutrients needed daily by the body, about 70 of these are ionic minerals and trace minerals. These supercharged minerals provide the body's cells with the building blocks that support 95% of the bodily functions. Basically, minerals are the catalyst for metabolism (the absorption of other nutrients, specifically key vitamins). Since our lands are so sterile, our food source does not generally contain these organic elements.
  2. Linus Pauling stated, "Every sickness and disease can be traced back to a mineral deficiency in the body" and he felt optimal health could be achieved by perfecting reaction conditions and making sure that the body maintained the proper balance of chemicals--nutrients, catalysts (minerals), and products. At the time of his death, he had 48 PhD's and 2 Nobel Peace prizes and is considered to be to molecular biology what Albert Einstein was to physics.
  3. Alfalfa with its deep reaching roots is one of the few plants that can reach deep enough into the earth to extract some organic minerals. (Isagenix incorporates a proprietary blend of 70 supercharged ionic minerals and trace minerals, blended with Alfalfa juice, into many of the Isagenix products.)
  4. High quality, unbleached, unprocessed sea salt or bay salt made from Dead Sea, ocean or underground water source without added preservatives are a great source of minerals and trace minerals. (Celtic Sea Salt is a quality sea salt.) Kosher or rock salts can be a high source (check the label for mineral contents), as well, and are third less expensive than sea salt, but have a brine or bitter taste.
  5. Bottled mineral waters from this country are not generally a good source of minerals and thereby are of no value except possibly convenience. (See information on the high - mineral water from the Coleman Crystal Mineral Mine listed under principle #3 above.)
  6. A body that is acidic tends to draw vital minerals, such as calcium, out of the bones and teeth to neutralize or alkalize the blood. This is one cause for the high incidence of osteoporosis in our country. If we consume enough quality minerals and trace minerals, calcium from animal and plant sources tends to stay in the bones where it is intended. (see below for more on Ca and Mg)
  7. Magnesium is important in the function of the nervous system, cardiovascular, muscular system and skeletal system. As a culture we are very magnesium depleted given our inadequate food supply. Magnesium supplementation is a must, particularly for women just preceding their menstrual cycle.
  8. The combination of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D3 are recommended for bone health. The combination of calcium and vitamin D3 are recommended for cancer prevention. (Isagenix products easily provide adequate amounts of liquid, powder or capsule sources of these vital nutrients.)
  9. Anemia and its affect, fatigue, are often due to poor iron absorption. As animal protein is hard to digest and our culture suffers from poor GI function, these factors often lead to the need for iron supplementation. If you take iron supplements, take them with a good vitamin C source to optimize absorption. (Non-acidic Ester-c, the patented form found in Isagenix C-Lyte gentle to the stomach, stays in the body longer and is four times more potent than regular Vitamin C.) But maybe more importantly, try to improve GI health as mentioned in these principles #1-6 and 9-13.
  10. Other minerals including selenium, iodine, silica and chromium are helpful for blood sugar control, thyroid health and many other health benefits.

4 - Alkalizing and lean muscle-sparing whey protein and other easily digested protein sources

  1. An adequate protein to carbohydrate ratio is vital to control blood sugars and unwanted fluid and weight retention and for the essential amino acid building blocks for muscle growth and repair and the production of hormones, enzymes, etc. A general recommendation is 40% proteins: 30% carbs with the rest being comprised of healthy fats. More protein may be needed for teen boys, the immune suppressed, lactating women, people over 53, and body builders.
  2. Animal meats and dairy products (along with a diet high in processed foods, refined sugar, caffeine, alcohol, coffee and soft drinks) contribute to an acidic body, which is not a healthy state. Any meat that is eaten should be from an organic, grass-fed source, free of hormones, antibiotics, nitrates and agricultural chemicals.
  3. Eggs, however, are the perfect protein containing all essential amino acids in a small quantity and are inexpensive. Choose fresh eggs from grass, grub and worm-eating chickens as often as possible. In the grocery, choose organic, cage-free eggs. By buying brown eggs, you ensure that you will not consume bleach as white eggs are sometimes bleached for preferred appearance.
  4. Good quality Greek yogurts offer good health benefits (see probiotics below) along with protein (Good examples are Stonyfield Oikos, FAGE and Brown Cow brands).
  5. Many people are lactose-sensitive, even lactose-intolerant, even though this remains undiagnosed. Given the poor state of our GI tracts, dairy foods can be difficult to digest and cause GI symptoms, such as, bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, and reflux. Other non-GI related symptoms can include allergies, asthma, eczema, irritability, hard time focusing, etc. (Similar symptoms can occur with celiac disease and undiagnosed gluten sensitivity.) In this case, dairy products (excluding whey, casein, eggs and, sometimes, yogurts) should be avoided or limited to ease the immune, nervous system and GI response. (Isagenix products are all lactose-free or considered low-lactose for easy digestion.) Digestive enzymes and probiotics should always be incorporated to increase and improve digestive microbial flora.
  6. Plant protein sources include nuts, beans, legumes, and hemp. Be careful with portion sizes, since they are calorie-dense and it would takes large amounts of these foods to provide the needed daily protein.
  7. Soy contains protein and has been reported to have heart healthy benefits, but be cautious. It can have a phytoestrogen effect in the body, increasing risk of cancer, particularly breast cancer. Also, very often the soy used is genetically altered (making it a genetically modified organism - GMO), which the body does not recognize for digestion, assimilation and removal. Although GMO foods have been banned in Europe, they do not have to be labeled in the US. (Isagenix products are mostly soy-free or have only trace amounts of soy. The IsaLean Shakes, for instance, do not contain soy protein, which may contain phytoestrogens, but contain vitamin E and lecithin derived from non-GMO soy that is highly purified.)
  8. Whey protein, on the other hand, is a good component of an alkaline diet, can be as high as 99% lactose-free and has a high concentration of protein. Quality whey is organic (high grade 7) and is undenatured (low heat flash-treated) to protect the properties of the amino acids and contains branched chain amino acids for muscle fiber repair and growth. This last reason is one reason athletes love this protein source. Pay close attention to look for whey that is free from hormones, antibiotics, agricultural chemicals and artificial ingredients. Most whey products are dog-food grade 2, have been heat treated and are formulated with fillers, sugars, and artificial ingredients. (There are only a few quality, safe and effective whey products or whey-based shakes: Isagenix, Designs for Health and Cool Whey are good examples) (The Isagenix IsaLean Shakes and IsaPro contain probiotics and living digestive enzymes for easier assimilation.)

5 - Correct balance of essential fatty acids

  1. If you are moderating your animal meat intake as mentioned above, you will limit your intake of saturated animal fats. Coconut is an example of a plant saturated fat that has good health properties and can be included in a healthy diet. It acts to satiate, as an anti-viral and anti-fungal, an immune booster, and helps protect the liver from toxicity of alcohol and certain drugs. It adds great flavor to foods and coconut milks and oils can be substituted in recipes for its health benefits and to replace other over-consumed fats.
  2. Do not buy products that contain trans fats. Look to avoid any product that lists hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated fats and oils on the ingredient label.
  3. We must be deliberate about incorporating Omega-3's into the diet. We get way too much Omega 6 in our diet from cooking oils and shelf-stable oils found in most packaged and fast foods, in some cases 26 times more than we need. DHA and EPA-rich Omega 3's help to daily support cardiovascular health, have a positive effect on lower blood sugars for those with high triglyceride levels and promote immune function, eye and joint health (inflammatory response) and maybe healthy brain development.
  4. Fish and fish oils from tuna (particularly albacore), salmon, mackerel, sardines, herring, halibut and bluefish are great sources of this. Even wild venison and buffalo offer good fats.
  5. If you choose to use fish oil capsules supplements, be very discriminating about your choice to avoid mercury, arsenic or other heavy metal contamination and to ensure pharmaceutical-certified purity, potency and efficacy. (Isagenix has one of the most potent Omega-3 supplements, IsaOmega Supreme, in the world.)
  6. Hemp is one of the Omega-3 plant sources. It has the added benefit of providing protein and will not have the contamination issues that you have to watch with fish. (The Isagenix IsaCrunch is made from only raw Canadian hulled hemp seed and Ionic Alfalfa.)
  7. Flaxseed and flaxseed oils are the other plant, concentrated source of omega 3's. They can be added to foods and beverages, but you cannot heat the oil excessively as in cooking. (A good drinkable source of flax and fish oil that even kids like is Barleans "Omega Swirl" products that contain fish, flax and vegan options in lemon and berry flavors. A good flaxseed oil is Spectrum organic brand. All of these products must be refrigerated.)
  8. Monounsaturated fats continue to be a heart healthy fat. Replace your cooking oils with olive and some canola oils and incorporate raw nuts, olives, avocado into your diet, remembering to treat them as fats - high caloric foods to be used in moderation.
  9. In selecting olive oil, your taste preference is the most important factor. Generally, "extra virgin" olive oil (EVOO) is the most healthful and intensive to make, so is therefore the most expensive. Its low acidity makes it ideal for raw dishes and it is never refined or deodorized and often grown organically. "Light" olive oil can be good for cooking and baking but very likely will not be grown organically. Note: the enemies of olive oil are air, light, heat and age, which can affect its rate oxidation. Therefore store olive oil in a sealed dark-colored jar in a cool, dark place. Consume it within 12-18 months of purchase date and within 3 weeks after opening it for the best results.
  10. Cooking at high temperatures can damage oils. The more omega-3 fatty acids in the oil, the less suitable it is for cooking. The heat not only damages the fatty acids, it can also change them into harmful substances. Hydrogenated oils are often used for cooking. The oils that are higher in saturated or monounsaturated fats are the most stable when heated. These include peanut oil and olive oil. The more fragile oils are best used at room temperature, like salad dressings. Never heat oils to the smoking point, as this not only damages their fatty acid content, but also their taste. The best cooking oils and fats are: butter, peanut oil, high oleic sunflower oil, high oleic safflower oil, sesame oil, and olive oil.
  11. Avoid oils labeled "vegetable oils" or "all purpose" oils as they are most likely made from highly polyunsaturated and/or refined oils.
  12. (The oils used in the Isagenix products are from flaxseeds, flaxseed oil, olive oil and non-hydrogenated canola, palm or palm kernel for a healthy fat profile. The small amount of saturated fat comes from palm and palm kernel oils and from the whey and casein from the New Zealand "happy cows.")

6 - Digestive enzymes* and food enzymes* to assimilate foods into the body

  1. These enzymes play a vital role, powered by minerals, in the absorption and delivery of nutrients to the body, which aids digestion for a healthier gastrointestinal tract. If the body does not have the building blocks for all the necessary enzymes in the body, it can hinder the enzymes in the other part of the body, such as cardiac, pulmonary or liver enzymes.
  2. There is a high incidence of (as many as 87% percent of Americans report) digestive and elimination disturbance these days. In light of this, supplementary digestive enzymes are recommended, particularly to aide digestion of animal meats and dairy foods, which are harder to digest. A complete enzyme complex should include carbohydrate, fat and protein-digesting enzymes (and other principles #1-6 and 9-13). (Isagenix has proprietary living enzymes in the IsaLean Shakes and Soups, the FiberPro, the Multi-Enzyme Complex, the C-Lyte, the IsaCalcium, the Essentials Multi-Vitamins and the IsaFruits and Greens.)
  3. 7 - B vitamins* to support energy metabolism for vitality and endurance

  1. These vital vitamins provide the nutritional fuel needed for natural energy metabolism, which helps to provide energy and stamina. A steady supply of these vitamins is needed throughout the day.
  2. Our population, in general, is vitamin B depleted. Approximately 2/3's of all doctor office visits are related to stress. In addition, many people are suffering with physical ailments, syndromes and diseases (many undiagnosed) at much younger ages. Physical and emotional stress depletes the body of B vitamins.
  3. In particular, women are 500% B vitamin depleted right before their menstrual cycles. Therefore, most of us need to supplement with B vitamins,* including B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12.
  4. Good food sources of B vitamins include breakfast cereals, dairy products, and some vegetables. (The Isagenix line is based on high B vitamin intake to combat fatigue and stress. 8 - Antioxidants* that protect from free radicals

  1. In this current environment, your body is bombarded by free radicals; therefore we should all try to consume a high amount of antioxidants and/or powder or liquid supplements.
  2. Valuable antioxidants can neutralize free radicals and safeguard against oxidative stress and its damage to the cells, tissues, organs and organ systems.
  3. Some good food sources of antioxidents include berries; red grapes; pomegranates; vitamin C-rich citrus fruits and tomatoes (also contain lycopene); beta carotene-rich orange carrots and sweet potatoes; healthy fats (raw sunflower seeds, almonds and olives) and leafy greens, which contribute vitamin E; and vitamin D produced by non-sunburn sunshine exposure and from supplemented foods. The most exciting antioxidant may be gourmet-grade dark chocolate made from 70% or higher nonalkalized coca powder. Note: vitamin C supplementation, which can lead to more well days, should be in the form of Ester-C.
  4. Other valuable and maybe elusive antioxidents include alpha lipoic acid, CoEnzyme Q10, fulvic acid, milk thistle, glutathione, green tea, pomegranates, rhododendron caucasicum, amla, and bacopa.
  5. Note: ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) value or score is the most common unit for identifying antioxidant strength. For example, a cup of quality, raw blueberries contains a very high ORAC value of approximately 5,700. (The ORAC value of 2 delicious Isagenix IsaDelight chocolate squares is also about 5,700.)
  6. Isagenix focuses on ample antioxidants to combat damaging free radicals. The Cleanse for Life drink, the Ionix Supreme, the Antioxidants, the C-Lyte, the SlimCakes, the IsaDelights chocolates (see above) and the IsaFruits and Greens are ideal sources of antioxidants from liquid and powder forms of whole-food, organic (when possible) and raw food sources. 9 - Prebiotics and Probiotics* for a healthy gastrointestinal flora

  1. Quality probiotics help restore the balance of good bacteria in the digestive track and help to synthesize some vitamins, particularly B vitamins and fatty acids. Probiotics have also been found to boost immunity.
  2. Food sources include yogurt, buttermilk and kefir, but be sure to choose brands without excessive refined sugar or artificial ingredients. Note: after taking antibiotics, it is necessary to re-populate the intestinal flora.
  3. Quality prebiotics feed probiotics to help them re-colonize the intestines and aide in the nutrient absorption.
  4. Many fruits and vegetables serve as prebiotics - just be sure the produce is organic or grown close-to-home, so they are more likely to contain all the necessary nutrients.
  5. Both prebiotics and probiotics can naturally improve digestion and elimination without the use of harmful stimulants. There is a high intake of antibiotics, which kill good bacteria in the gut, and a high incidence of digestion and elimination disturbance these days. In light of this, supplementary sources are recommended (in addition to these principles #1-6 and 9-13).
  6. There are also excellent, tasteless powdered probiotics and prebiotics that can be added to foods. (The Isagenix Isalean Shakes, Soups, FiberPro, IsaCalcium, IsaFruits and Greens.

10 - Unprocessed, fiber-rich, complex carbohydrates from a variety of low-glycemic, gluten and non-gluten sources

  1. Many people suffer with undiagnosed gluten sensitivity (hard to diagnose without a urine gliadin level), even gluten intolerance 9diagnosed by obtaining a biopsy). Given the poor state of our GI tracts, gluten can be difficult to digest and cause GI symptoms, such as, bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, and reflux. Other non-GI related symptoms can include allergies, asthma, eczema, irritability, hard time focusing, etc. (Similar symptoms can occur with lactose intolerance and undiagnosed lactose sensitivity.) In this case, gluten products should be avoided or limited to ease the immune, nervous system and GI response.
  2. Add non-gluten sources of crackers, cereals, bread products and flours into your diet. These include rice, corn and cornmeal, amaranth, tapioca, arrowroot, buckwheat, millet, quinoa, potato and soy (in moderation). (All but two of the Isagenix products are gluten-free, wheat-free and barley-free.)
  3. There can be an over-emphasis on the quantities and benefits of whole wheat we should eat. Wheat products, in addition to fiber, can contribute unwanted gluten, partially-hydrogenated and Omega-6 oils, high fructose corn syrup, a hindrance to blood sugar/insulin control and fluid and weight gain. (All but two of the Isagenix products are gluten-free, wheat-free and barley-free.)
  4. An adequate protein to carbohydrate ratio is vital to control blood sugars and unwanted fluid and weight retention and for the essential amino acid building blocks for muscle growth and repair and the production of hormones, enzymes, etc. A general recommendation is 40 protein grams: 30carbs grams with the rest being comprised of healthy fats. More protein may be needed for teen boys, immune suppressed, women lactating, people over 53, and body builders. (Isagenix IsaPro serves as an excellent way to boost the protein intake without increasing acid-encouraging animal proteins in the diet.)
  5. Adding soluble and insoluble fiber to the diet is imperative for a healthy GI, cardiovascular system and to prevent cancer and to control blood sugars and the insulin response. The goal is 25-35 grams fiber per day. (Isagenix contains many fiber-rich products including Isalean Shakes, Bars, Soups, IsaFiber, SlimCakes, IsaFruits and Greens.
  6. The best food sources, of course, are raw fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, whole grains hemp and nuts.
  7. Some people try to add fiber and phylum products to the diet with less than ideal benefit and often with addition or increase of bloating, gas and other GI symptoms. The best solution is a healthy GI tract and adequate dietary fiber intake (and these principles #1-6 and 9-13). Then supplementation may benefit.

11 - Anti-inflammatory, adaptogenic, cleansing and metabolic boosting herbs, spices, and teas

  1. Incorporate lots of botanicals that have anti-inflammatory and metabolic boosting properties including turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf, cayenne, coriander, dry mustard (refer to principle #1 for cleansing recommendations). (The Isagenix line focuses on botanicals that aid the body. The products that offer these botanicals include Cleanse for Life, Snacks, IsaFlush, Ionix Supreme and Greens.)
  2. Adaptogens are defined as naturally-derived ingredients found in few plants and herbs to balance and harmonize the body as it responds to physical and emotional stress to the body. The Russians successfully used these recently with their cosmonauts and Olympic athletes in the 1960-70's. Since they are elusive, supplementation is vital.
  3. Adaptogens are not found in common food sources. There are 11-12 known adaptogens world-wide, including: Ashwaganda, Nepali Shilajit, Schizandra, and Siberian ginseng. (Isagenix has an amazing liquid energy-adaptogen drink that contains these adaptogens for a total of 9 of the known 12 adaptogens.   4. Isagenix herbs and botanicals are obtained from reputable sources but their proprietary blend of herbs are re-tested after formulation for impurities and to ensure.

12 - Only natural sweeteners, flavors, and colors. Natural preservatives only as needed

  1. According to the Environmental Working Group, some foods contain more contaminants than others. Generally, the more processed the food, the lower the nutritional value and the higher the toxic content. Even those foods which are considered the healthiest for us, can be full of toxins (artificial ingredients)and may actually contribute to the very diseases they are suppose to help prevent.
  2. Choose foods that are closest to natural, organic, and "whole food" * as often as possible to obtain the most nutritional content and avoid the chance of consuming pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, hormones, microbial, artificial coloring, flavoring, sweeteners, or nitrates.
  3. Note: The average American consumes far too much sugar which leads to an acidic body that is more prone to many diseases and medical conditions. The goal should be to consume sugar only in small amounts and when choosing these foods, be sure they contain healthy nutrients in addition to the sugar.
  4. Look for foods with natural sweeteners such as the juices, dried, concentrates, roots and/or extracts of fruits and vegetables, molasses, unbleached evaporated or pure cane juice, agave syrup, or natural sugar alcohols such as erythritol, xylitol or sucrolase. (Sugar alcohols are safe to use but can cause an exacerbation of GI symptoms in those with irritable bowel syndrome or GI dysfunctions. If used in excess they can cause blood sugar control problems, as well.)
  5. Avoid all synthetic sugar substitutes including Aspartame, NutraSweet and Equal. Choose instead, natural low glycemic, calorie-free sweeteners, such as Stevia products - Purevia, Truevia, and Sun Sweet (has small amount of cane sugar) do not have the bitterness of some Stevia sweeteners. Agave syrup is a low glycemic sweetener but is not considered calorie-free as the aforementioned in this list.
  6. If you haven't heard - stop drinking sodas now. According to the 2001 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, soda is the major source of calories in the United States. Soda, with its load of artificial ingredients or toxins, creates many problems for people who want to be healthy and overwhelms even the best digestive capacities. Drinking soda feeds gas-producing bacteria, hindering the GI system and carbonation, in particular, is very harmful to the immune system to begin with, not to mention all the artificial toxicity they contain. (Non-carbonated beverages that are good choices include Trader Joe's electrolyte water, Sobe flavored Lifewater, Fuze Slenderize, and Isagenix Want More Energy (not to be consumed in the evening). If you must choose "healthier" carbonated beverages, consider Zevia, which is all natural and sweetened with Stevia.)
  7. All Isagenix products meet these criteria.
  8. Natural preservatives are sometimes necessary to preserve freshness, particularly in liquid products and are safe to consume. These include citric acid, potassium sorbet and sodium benzoate.

13 - Alkalizing fruits and vegetables.

  1. Fruits and vegetables are imperative for overall health. They are part of a healthy, alkaline-promoting diet and many are nutrient-dense. They should be high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, food enzymes, antioxidants, and liquid, and are predominately low in fat. Although, it is important to choose produce that is safe, organic and/or grown close-to-home, so they are more likely to contain all the necessary nutrients and living food enzymes.
  2. Raw vegetables and fruits contain higher amounts of nutrients and benefits than canned or frozen, but quick frozen is the next best option.
  3. Choose produce that is considered natural and organically grown. Limit fruits and vegetables processed with artificial additives or refined sugars or that has been exposed to pesticides and herbicides.
  4. Even those foods which are considered the healthiest for us, fruits and vegetables, in their natural state. The following list contains the 12 most contaminated foods if eaten inorganically: apples, cherries, nectarines, pears, red raspberries, strawberries, celery, imported grapes, peaches, potatoes, spinach, and sweet bell peppers.
  5. *Vitamins/Minerals - Bioavailability

It is well known the body absorbs liquids faster and effectively than solids. According to "Physician's Desk Reference", only 10-20% of vitamins and minerals in pill form are absorbed by the human body. Pills are predominately excreted undigested, unabsorbable and unassimilated into the body. Therefore, choose low temperature processed, quality liquid and powder products to optimal absorption.

**Vitamins - "natural", "organic", "synthetic" or "whole-food"

There are conflicting views about what can be regarded as "natural", "organic", "synthetic" or "whole-food" vitamins. The main reasoning is due to the number of products on the market that provide vitamins synthetically derived from petrochemicals, tar or coal. Often these vitamins do not provide the same bioavailability or purity as if they had been derived from a natural source.

To be sure of bioavailability and potency, choose vitamins either present in natural form or derived from natural food sources. Vitamin E serves as a good example. The atural nand potent forms of vitamin E are d-alpha tocopheryl succinate and d-alpha tocopherol.

In addition, the best supplements are regarded as "whole-food" because they are complemented by whole-food ingredients as in nature allowing the symbiotic effect of the myriad of nutrients that even science does not fully understand and optimal assimilation aided by living food enzymes.

In addition, the best supplements can be considered "raw food", because they are not excessively heated in the formulation process. This low heat processing ensures the nutrients maintain their natural properties and function(s) in the body.

Remember you want no artificial additives-colors, flavors, caffeine, stimulants, or preservatives including no added MSG into your supplements.

Unfortunately in light of all this, buying supplements (vitamins, antioxidants, probiotics, enzymes, minerals, etc.) at drugstores, wholesale warehouses, and supermarkets are generally not worth the price you pay.

**Quality Control Methods

Quality ingredients can be sourced from reputable suppliers from all over the world in formulating supplements. For instance, at Isagenix, upon arrival at the processing facilities, ingredients are immediately quarantined and thoroughly inspected through vigorous testing for identity, safety, purity and potency. Strict policies are in place to ensure that banned substances, such as steroids, are kept away from all facilities. In addition, all ingredients are inspected thoroughly for pesticides, herbicides, and microbial content. During and after formulation, they are inspected and tested to ensure efficacy. GRAS is an American Food and Drug Administration FDA) designation that a chemical or substance added to food is considered safe by experts, and so is exempted from the usual Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) food additive tolerance requirements. Therefore, no FDA approval applies, but FDA compliance is met.
